I always get excited about my birthday, not necessarily because I have something planned but just because it is my birthday. April is the most stressful time of the year at work. We usually have our biggest event of the year on the 27th and I manage the guest list and handle invitations – creating a template, addressing them, printing … the whole works. This means that every year on my birthday, the 26th, I am too stressed out to enjoy the day. This year was different and special because we would have our work event on my birthday and I was excited to have a “free party”😁. The day did not go according to plan but at the end I was incredibly grateful for that. I’m not going to bore you with all the details so I’ll summarize in a few things I am thankful for:

  1. Savings

Between the evening of the 25th and the morning of the 26th, I had 2 unrelated problems with my car that required immediate fixing – battery and one back tyre. The beauty of the situation is that I had both fixed without having to drive to a mechanic – they came to me, picked up the car, did the repairs and returned her (PS: Her name is Goldilocks, Goldie for short🚗). And the back tyres were already due for a change so I didn’t need to replace my already new front tyres. I spent more money than I had budgeted for the month but is that’s exactly what savings are for, a rainy day.

  1. Good friends (who give presents)🙈

Who knew one could make new best friends in old age? Certainly not me! I recently started hanging out with a group of amazing women – strong, independent, supportive women – who are awesome cheerleaders and they surprised me with an awesome birthday cake and Dutch themed presents, literally stuff from the Netherlands. We all live in Nigeria and none of us had visited the Netherlands recently so it was totally unexpected. I still don’t know exactly how they pulled it off but I loved it😍.

  1. Contentment:

My birthday started with me doing what I love – baking – and while the lemon cake was in the oven at 12:05am, I opened up a present I had bought for myself, a tiara ring from Pandora – an awesome way to start off my day if you ask me😁. I said a prayer of course, giving thanks for life, laughter, love and most importantly, peace of mind. Do I have challenges? Sure I do, but I have so much to be grateful for that I do my best not to let the challenges keep me down.

Happy birthday to me!! 🎉🍾🥂

xoxo
